Transactions of The American Entomological Society is the oldest continuously issued journal in the New World devoted to the publication of papers on the taxonomy and systemics of insects. The journal is published in 4 quarterly issues and is devoted principally to the publication of longer papers. Papers shorter than 10 printed pages will only be accepted under special circumstances. There is no upper limit of the length of papers that will be accepted.
Contributions are accepted in any of the aspects
of systematics and taxonomy of insects. The sole criterion for
acceptability will be the excellence of the manuscript submitted.
Manuscripts will be published in the order in which they are accepted,
except that Society Members will take order precedence over non-members.
The society now offers improved opportunities for publication by removing all page charges and offering free electronic PDFs of published papers. The journal also offers a larger format to improve the quality of illustrations and maps. (8 inches X 10 inches; 20 cm X 25 cm). Color illustrations are also offered as an option. Except in unusual circumstances, all papers will be published within six months of submission.
Submission of Papers
Papers must be submitted electronically using standard formats (e. g., MS Word), either as email attachments or on diskette. Send e-mail items to the editor at otte @ansp.org.

Illustrations:
Illustrations should not be embedded in the manuscript. They should be submitted as separate files -- either in JPG or TIFF formats. Color or black and white illustrations should have a resolution of 300 DPI. Line illustration should have a 600 DPI resolution.
Illustrations should have a maximum width of 6 inches (or 15 cm) (two column width) or 3 inches (7cm) (single column). Illustrations should ahve a maximum height of 7 inches (18cm). Original drawings
will not be returned unless requested by, and at the expense of, the author. Color illustrations should only be used if color is extremely important.
Tables
Tables should be submitted separately from the text. It is best to separate the items in each column by a single tab.
Acceptable procedure in the writing of systematic papers, as indicated by current
usage, should be adhered to. Clarity of expression and ease of communication
are more desirable than a rigid format. Contributors should refer to recent issues
of Transactions to see examples of formatting. Manuscripts should be
typewritten, double-spaced, on one side of paper, with dimensions approximately
8.5 x 11 inches, and with at least one inch clear margin at top and left side.
They should not be marked for font, style or typecase, except italics for scientific
names.
After the paper has been accepted for publication the author should submit one
paper copy and one computer file version of the paper.
